GMA 7 Snatches Philippine Idol

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

The tug-of-war between GMA 7 and ABC 5 for the rights to air Philippine Idol season 2 is finally over. GMA 7 is now the official station to air the second season of Philippine Idol snatching the franchise from ABC 5.

Geraldine Bravo, director of Fremantle Media (owner of the ‘Idol’ franchise) Sales and Marketing, confirmed that the much-anticipated season 2 of Philippine Idol will be aired on GMA 7.

According to Bravo’s statement, Fremantle has taken into consideration several parties to be the possible home of RP Idol and found GMA as the excellent partner to keep the Idol “more interesting” and “phenomenal” as with most of the countries who bought the idol franchise.

There are speculations that Ryan Agoncillo will be replaced by Regine Velasquez or Paolo Bediones for the hosting job while Ryan Cayabyab will remain one of the 3 judges.

And according to various sources, the show’s target launch is February 2008.
